What is the MOT Test?
The MOT test is a mandatory inspection that ensures your vehicle meets the minimum safety and environmental standards required to be legally driven on the road. The Vehicle and Operator Services Agency (VOSA) sets these standards and monitors both the testing stations and testers.
When to Book Your MOT
You can have your MOT test up to one month in advance of the due date. Keep in mind that while the MOT ensures your vehicle meets the basic road safety and environmental requirements, it does not replace a scheduled service. A service provides a much more thorough inspection of your vehicle’s overall condition and performance. Does your car need a service too?
After 3 Years
Once your vehicle is 3 years old, it will need an MOT test every 12 months. It is your responsibility to ensure your vehicle’s MOT is up to date. A valid MOT certificate is a legal requirement to drive your vehicle. Without one, you cannot renew your road tax, and you may not be covered by insurance.
